The live wire or primary power line in a surge protector includes an additional linked connection that feeds to an earth wire. A ground wire’s purpose would be to direct any extra current safely to the floor. The surge connection in the shield remains inactive until a bigger than normal voltage appears. This excess current is then safely diverted through the excess earth wire, directly into the floor. This averts more current than normal from flowing to your appliances effectively making sure that they are protected from any injury which could result from power surges.
